Miami Dolphins/New York Giants to play regular NFL fixture at London’s Wembley Stadium?

Will this do anything to spread the popularity of American football in Britain? Will it sell out, and who will buy the tickets? Maybe American tourists and die-hard travelling fans? Remember the “World Bowl” and the London Monarchs? Where is this tournament now, and Channel 4’s American football coverage?

I admit I am not a fan of the sport, but I am not trying to knock it. I just think efforts to popularise it here have been tried already and proved to be a waste of time.

the only sellout is roger goodell. not a fan of either team, but if my team had to travel across the pond to play in front of some toothless drunk hooligans wondering why that football is shaped so funny in the middle of a playoff run id be fricken pissed

Personally I dont think it matters either way.

Football is our sport and it is extremely popular here and isnt showing any signs of slowing. Personally I dont care it Europeans like it or not. Just as they probably dontt care if we like Cricket or not.

The chances are, American football isn’t going to catch on in Britain. There’s already been an NFL Europe, and that didn’t make anyone across the pond want to play football. This is mainly because all the players were American, and the equipment isn’t exactly widely available to the public in a country with little or no interest in playing the sport. So, even if someone did get into it, where would they find a team to play on?

Next season, every week, a game will be played in another country.

Seems like a big waste of time to me. Europe already has football. If they wanted Soccer with contact, they’d watch Rugby.

What does the NFL bring that these people don’t already have? The game takes 2x as long yet the actual time of play is far less than Rugby (80 minutes continuous vs. 60 minutes stop and go)

The English will watch the NFL when they have the need to watch more commercials and celebrations for every little thing.

I dont think it will do good there and hopefully when it doesnt sell out Goddell will focus more on keeping loyal fans happy, rather then trying to bring in unwilling participants from over seas.

Well it clearly is fairly popular here as they’ve sold the stadium out for the forthcoming fixture.

Errr – there were nearly a million ticket applications for this game (stadium hold 90,000) so I think you can safely say it has sold out.

Dont think it will make the sport more popular over here, but you can see just how much interest there is. Apart from first 2 season of World League when the London Monarchs attracted huge crowds, watching live games of a non NFL standard didnt appeal to the public.
