    They send you the booking reference and everything on your email!
    They ask you for your phone number in case of an emergency

    are you referring to why they ask for you phone number?.. if so then nearly every airline has a department whihc calls customers if a flight has been cancelled, to avoid you getting to the airport to find out…

    but otherwise no.. they wont call you

    They may need to call you if there ia a problem with your reservation. Whilst normal communication would be sent to your email address, often if there is a last minute change or a problem with contacting you via email, calling is the only option.
